Irakleia bay

302_5236 [Irakleia bay]

As I was standing at my window early in the morning today, I was looking at the gloomy, rainy weather outside that was setting off all sorts of depressing feelings. Doing so is not the best thing to do if you need to counterbalance feelings produced by such weather and experienced in the middle of a pandemic. Fortunately, I subconsciously remembered a short, summer trip to Irakleia: a small gem-island in the Greek Small Cyclades. I had visited the island to take pictures of flowers there but I also had the chance to dive into clear turquoise waters and relax in an unprecedentedly tranquil island environment! My thoughts about it proved to be the perfect antidote to my mood! It reacted in only a few seconds!

Beauty in Simplicity

IMG_5633 [Beauty in Simplicity]

This little chapel is dedicated to St. Nicholas who is considered by the Greeks to be the patron saint of all seamen. It stands on a cliff near the port of Rafina and overlooks all ships moving in and out day and night.
See picture below.

Anglers

SCCN0180 [Anglers]

Strolling along the sea front in Thessaloniki late one afternoon, I came across this bunch of anglers who, in parallel with their fishing, they were each doing whatever their soul desired. I hope at some point in time they also noticed and enjoyed the beautiful sunset in the distance.

Next to the anglers there was an unattended fishing rod [not seen in the picture above] waiting for a fish to bite. I found its reel inviting, so I took the picture below.

Serenity

[Serenity]

With Greece been covered with snow all over and freezing temperatures chilling our bones, I thought I should share with you a picture of warmth and serenity to help you visualize something you could start looking forward to.

Soon after the storm

AAA3420 [Soon after the storm]

When the storm started literally flooding Thessaloniki, I found myself trapped in a seaside café on Nea Paralia (the New Waterfront). The storm didn’t last long but left behind large pools of water, frightening clouds, unusual colors on the sky and an overall unprecedented atmosphere. The situation called for a press on the trigger of the camera. When the rain stopped, I started thinking of how I could best compose my picture when this “romantic” lady stepped into the frame and completed the composition. I pressed the trigger, before she decided to go. I was standing in a pool of water but have never regretted it.
